Alright, Monday night in the NBA. It’s a seven-game slate, which means plenty of opportunities to find some value, whether you're building a daily fantasy lineup or eyeing those season-long streaming options. We've got some interesting matchups, some tired teams, and a few guys who could absolutely explode.
Let’s start with the Washington Wizards hosting the Detroit Pistons. This is going to be a track meet, guaranteed. The Wizards rank dead last in defensive efficiency, giving up 123.6 points per game. The Pistons aren't much better, sitting at 27th. Cade Cunningham, coming off a 33-point, 8-assist performance against the Pelicans on Friday, is in a prime spot. He’s been handling an insane usage rate, north of 30% most nights. On the Wizards side, Kyle Kuzma has been inconsistent, but in games where the pace is high, he tends to thrive. He dropped 30 points and 10 boards against the Blazers last week. Keep an eye on whoever starts at center for the Wizards if Daniel Gafford is limited. Marvin Bagley III could be a sneaky play if he gets extended minutes against his old team.
Then you look at the Miami Heat traveling to Sacramento. This is a tough back-to-back for Miami after playing in Los Angeles on Sunday. Travel and fatigue are real factors. Jimmy Butler missed Sunday's game with a toe injury; if he sits again, Bam Adebayo becomes a must-roster. Adebayo put up 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists against the Clippers. The Kings, meanwhile, are a different beast at home, winning 12 of their 19 games at the Golden 1 Center. Domantas Sabonis is a double-double machine, averaging 19.3 points and 12.8 rebounds in his last ten games. I like De'Aaron Fox here too; his speed against a potentially sluggish Heat defense could lead to a massive night. He's been averaging over 27 points in his last five home games.
The late game between the Phoenix Suns and the Portland Trail Blazers is another one to watch. The Suns are still without Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker has been carrying an immense load. Booker had 52 points against the Pelicans last Tuesday and followed it up with 35 against the Heat. He’s going to get his shots. The Blazers are struggling, losing seven of their last ten, but Scoot Henderson is starting to find his rhythm. He had 19 points and 7 assists against the Nets on Friday. Malcolm Brogdon, however, is the safer play in Portland, consistently giving you 18-20 points and 5-6 assists. Shaedon Sharpe is still sidelined, opening up more minutes for Henderson and Kris Murray.
Here's the thing: I’m fading the Denver Nuggets against the Orlando Magic. Everyone expects Nikola Jokic to just roll, but the Magic's defense, especially Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, is stifling. Orlando holds opponents to the fifth-lowest field goal percentage in the league (46.2%). Jokic will get his numbers, sure, but I don't see a massive blow-up game from him in terms of fantasy points. I think this game is lower scoring than people realize. For a hot take, I think Jalen Suggs outscores Jamal Murray in this matchup. Suggs has been quietly efficient on offense, hitting 40.5% from three in his last five.
Real talk, the most undervalued play of the night is probably Tyus Jones from the Wizards. He’s been quietly putting up solid numbers – 13 points, 6 assists, 2 steals against Cleveland on Friday – and against a fast-paced Pistons team, he could flirt with a double-double in assists. His price point makes him an absolute steal.
My bold prediction for Monday night: Cade Cunningham records his first triple-double of the season against the Wizards, putting up 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists.
