The most honest shooting metric. Accounts for two-pointers, three-pointers, AND free throws. Formula: Points / (2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)). League average: ~57%. Elite: 62%+. Jokic at 66% TS is absurd efficiency. A player shooting 45% from the field but 90% from the line and 40% from three has better TS% than someone shooting 50% from the field with poor free throw shooting.
Points scored minus points allowed per 100 possessions. The simplest measure of how good a team really is. OKC Thunder 2025-26 Net Rating: +8.7 (elite). A +5 net rating usually means a 55+ win team. Negative means you're outscored more than you outscore — you're bad, regardless of record.
Created by John Hollinger. Combines all box score stats into one number. League average: 15.0. All-Star level: 20+. MVP level: 27+. Jokic's career PER (31.3 in 2022) is the highest in NBA history. Limitation: doesn't capture defense well. Rudy Gobert's PER looks mediocre despite being the best defender in basketball.
